I grew up in the Tidewater area of Virginia, went to college at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, and then spent a few years as a community organizer traveling around the state working on various progressive causes before I decided to pursue a master's in education at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. I'm a lifelong learner and believe in the inherit value of an education, which is what brought me to New York. I just completed a Master of Fine Arts in Writing on fellowship at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY and although I enjoyed being a student again, I'm eager to get back into the role of teacher. I had a great time working with the scholars in July and am especially looking forward to working with the seniors this year to help them make plans for life after they graduate.
